- A wireless network
- A computer with internet access
What do I need to do to start using my Ikan? You will need to know your home wireless network name and security key if applicable. Once you receive your device, you will need to set it up. Setup requires the following steps:
- Register your new device on the www.ikan.net website.
- Activate your Ikan account from the email that Ikan will send to you.
- Find a place to keep the device. Ideally, this will be close to your trash so that you may scan products as you throw them away. After registration, turn it on and follow instructions on the screen.
What are my options for using Ikan to do my shopping? With the Ikan system, you have three options to choose from for shopping:
- Home Delivery* - have your preferred retailer bring your goods to you.
- Order Pick-up* - place the order for the supplies you need and then pick them up from your preferred retailer when you are ready.
- Personal Shopping - print out the list of products you scanned into your virtual shopping cart and use that list when you go to the store yourself to buy the goods you need.
* Subject to availability in your area.
How do I choose my preferred retailer? When you register your Ikan device, the system will show all available retailers in your area, based on your zip code. You will then be able to choose a preferred retailer.

This is the simplest way to connect Ikan to your home wireless network and is strongly recommended.
You may skip this step and manually enter your network settings directly into your Ikan unit. However, it is easier and you will save considerable time entering your network settings on the web page, printing and scanning your barcodes versus entering the information using the Ikan network setting configuration menus.

When you select your network name you will be prompted to enter your network password if your wireless network requires a password. If your wireless network does not have a password, the Ikan will not ask you for your password and will automatically attempt to join your wireless network.
